Facts about Tibet

Tibet ( Xizang ), located in southwest of China, is bordered by India, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar and Sikkim. Tibet was liberated peacefully in 1951, and became an autonomous region of China in 1965. With the capital city of Lhasa, Tibet covers 1.2 million sq. km., and is populated by Tibetan, Han, Menba, Luoba, Hui and other indigenous peoples. 

Tibetan has a long history in China. Buddhism has had a great history in Tibet, and has had deep influence on the area. Through the  long history of religion and politics, Buddhism has had a great impact on Tibetan activities. 

Language

Chinese and Tibetan language is widely spoken. English is understood in hotels and travel industry people. It is helpful if you try to learn some Tibetan words.

Currency

Chinese Yuan or Renminbi (RMB ).  Major credit cards are accepted at some hotels and stores in Lhasa. However, it is recommended to prepare enough (RMB ) Renminbi Chinese currency for your entire journey in Tibet. Because, no foreign exchange facilities available in each place other than Lhasa.

Electricity

220 Volt is used in Tibet, China. If you are using 110 volt power supply, it is recommended to have power converter. Two and three pin power shocket with flat and round pin is used.
