What kind of identification and visa do I need to travel beyond Himalayas?

All travelers need valid passport to travel Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and Sikkim.
All travelers except Nepalese and Indian nationals needs visa to travel Nepal. Visa can be obtained on arrival. Also can be obtained from Nepalese embassies located near your home town. Nepal visa can be processed online going here Nepal Immigration.
Tourists only with confirmed tour schedule gets travel approval to Bhutan. No independent travel is allowed. We handle all visa formalities once you decided to purchase one of our Bhutan tour.
Tibet, China
Tourists only with confirmed tour schedule gets travel approval to Tibet. No independent travel is allowed. We handle all visa formalities once you decided to purchase one of our Tibet tour. Travel permission has to process at least 45 days prior to travel date. Special travel permit is issued that allows to travel Tibet and no regular China visa is valid.
Sikkim, India

Visa Formalities ?

Nepal Visa

Nepal visa can be obtained process from nearest consulates or embassies of Nepal in your region. However you may obtained on arrival at entry points of Nepal including Tribhuwan International airport in Kathmandu.To expedite the process complete the visa application online and bring the paperwork with you.

Bhutan Visa

We handle all visa formalities for Bhutan once you have purchased one of our tours. The visa to Bhutan visa is not available independently, unless you have a sponsor in Bhutan. Travelers who have a fully paid travel booking are eligible to obtain the visa approval through a tour company like us. Current visa fee is US$ 40 per trip.

Tibet, China Travel Permit

Independent travel in Tibet, China is not permissible at this time. Each traveler needs a special travel permit from the Tibet Tourism bureau to get into Tibet. Travelers with confirmed and fully paid travel bookings are eligible to obtain a Tibet travel permit, which is processed by tour companies like us. The permit must be issued at least 45 days prior to beginning of your tour. (subject to change without notice). Once we get the approval from the Tibet Tourism Bureau, that permit has to be endorsed by the  Embassy of China – here in Kathmandu – with your original passport and photos. This process required at least 2-3 working days (subject to urgent fees).

Nepal standard time is UTC +5:45 while Tibet follows Beijing standard time that is UTC+8:00, Sikkim, India is UTC +5:30

What is the weather look like in Nepal ?

Climate in Nepal varies across the country according to region. There are four seasons in all region, but temperatures and humidity may vary. Hill and mountain region can expect snow in the winter ( Nov, Dec, Jan ) and comfortable temperatures during other months with clear sky. Monsoon start late May till early September. Temperature may go over 35 degree celsius in southern parts of Nepal such as Chitwan, Lumbini.

What should I pack/wear to Nepal ?

The weather and climate can vary depending on the region of Nepal you are visiting. However, day temperature in southern part of Nepal such as in Chitwan, Lumbini, goes over 35 degree Celsius in the months of Apr, May, Jun, Jul, Aug with occasional rain and goes near 0 degree Celsius during the months of Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb. In the mountains and hills temperature remains below 30 degree Celsius in the summer but goes below 0 in the winter.

The key to comfort in packing the right clothes to Nepal lies in layers. Whether chilly, wet, hot or cold, wear comfortable layers that you can peel off and put on should the weather change. Be sure to pack a good pair of comfortable shoes or hikers with good traction that will be fitting for exploring the outdoors.

What holidays are celebrated in Nepal?

In Nepal different ethnic groups and religion lives together. So, there are over 100 days of Holidays for festivals. Major festivals are Dasain, Tihar, which are held between months of Sep and Oct. Dasain celebrates for 10 days and Tihar celebrate nearly a week. Other holidays new year, Buddha’s birthday, Christmas, Nepalese new year also celebrated.

What is the VAT (value added tax ) rate in Nepal?

Value added tax rate is 13% and service tax rate of 10% in the service sector. So total tax rates of 24.30% is levied in the service sector.


Usually Tipping is included on bill by 10% service taxes in most of hotels and restaurants located urban areas like Kathmandu, Chitwan and Pokhara. However, tipping is recommended or expected by guides, porters, who travel with you during the tour or trekking. Often in a group travel, your crews (guides, porters) organize a performance at the last night of the trek or tour to have great fun for all and expects tipping. An important point is that this is entirely at your discretion.

Are there any driving rules in Nepal

Driving is on the left hand side of the road. No self-drive service is available or in practice for tourist yet.

Can I wear shorts in rural area?

It is not recommended to wear too short clothes to honor local cultural value.

Credit Cards/Debit Cards accepted in Nepal ?

Major credit and debit cards are accepted in Nepal but subject to additional bank charges. ATM are available most urban areas. However, you need to carry enough cash while you are traveling in rural area or during the trek.

How about drinking water in Nepal?

Tap water is not directly drinkable in urban areas even in hotels. Bottled water is better to use. Tap water in rural area is better than drinking water of urban area. However, it is recommended to boil before drinking.

Power and Battery charging

Since, recent years power shortage problem is less than couple of years ago in Nepal. So Charging facilities are available in your hotels in urban areas. Even those facilities are available in most of trekking routes. However, some remote areas still you need to have your own solar chargers. Please be sure to check the charging plug which is one used in Nepal. Mostly three pin round and square plugs are used in Nepal
