Tibet- Pearl of the Plateau

Tibet (Xizang), located in southwest China, is bordered by India, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar and Sikkim. The state was liberated peacefully in 1951, and became an autonomous region of China in 1965. With the capital city of Lhasa, it covers 1.2 million sq. km. and is populated by Tibetan, Han, Menba, Luoba, Hui and other people.

Dominated by the Qingzang plateau, the region is a highland with an average elevation of over 4000 meters, and lies in a plateau or semi arid climate. It is also characterized by lower temperature, less rain, thin air and strong sunshine. The average temperature ranges from -3 to 12 degrees centigrade, and northern Tibetan plateau is covered for half of the year with ice and snow. Lhasa has the longest yearly period of sunshine, and Lhasa and Recaze are called the “Sunshine City”.

Tsam-pa(Barley flour), butter tea, Chang wine, Quozuang dancing, Tibetan Opera, classics discussions and folklore festivals are some the charming scenes and events that will capture your heart forever.
